Google Business Profile Checklist for Dallas–Fort Worth Small Businesses
A practical Google Business Profile checklist for Dallas–Fort Worth businesses: categories, services, photos, reviews and posts that win map searches.

For most local businesses in Dallas–Fort Worth, the Google Business Profile brings in more calls than the website. It is what people see when they search “HVAC repair near me” or “dentist in Plano”: the map, the stars, the photos and the call button. And it is free.
Yet most profiles we audit are half finished. Here is the checklist we use with clients, in the order that makes the biggest difference.
1. Get the basics exactly right
- Business name: your real name, exactly as on your sign. Adding keywords (“Smith Plumbing – Best Plumber Dallas”) breaks Google’s rules and can get the profile suspended.
- Address or service area: if customers come to you, show the address. If you go to them, hide the address and set a service area of the cities you really cover.
- Phone and website: a local number that rings a person, and a link to the most relevant page of your site.
- Hours: current hours, plus holiday hours. Nothing loses a customer faster than a closed door during “open” hours.
2. Choose categories carefully
The primary category is the strongest ranking signal you control. Pick the one that matches your main service, not the broadest one. An HVAC company should be “HVAC contractor”, not “Contractor”. Then add a few secondary categories for real services you offer.
3. List every service
Add each service with a short description in plain words: what it is, who it is for, and the areas you serve. These descriptions help Google match you to specific searches and help customers understand what you do before they call.
4. Add real photos, and keep adding them
Profiles with recent photos get more clicks. Add your storefront or vehicle, your team, finished jobs, before-and-after shots and the inside of your space. Phone photos are fine as long as they are sharp and well lit. Stock photos do not help.
5. Build a steady flow of reviews
- Ask every happy customer, at the moment they are happiest: when the job is done or the problem is fixed.
- Send a direct review link by text or email. Google gives you one in the profile dashboard (“Ask for reviews”).
- Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and within a few days.
- Never buy reviews or offer something in exchange for one. It is against Google’s rules and against federal law.
Ten honest reviews spread over a year are worth more than fifty from one week.
6. Post updates
Google Business Profile posts show offers, events and news directly in your listing. A short post every week or two, with a photo, keeps the profile active and gives searchers another reason to call.
7. Answer the questions people ask
The Q&A section lets anyone ask a question, and anyone can answer it. Add the common questions yourself, with clear answers about pricing, areas served, parking or how quickly you can come out.
8. Make sure your website backs it up
Google compares your profile with your website and with your listings on other sites. Use the same name, address and phone number everywhere, and have a page on your site for each main service and area. A fast, mobile-friendly site also turns more profile clicks into calls.
9. Measure what it brings in
The profile dashboard shows searches, calls, direction requests and website clicks. Add UTM tracking to your website link so Google Analytics can separate profile visitors from other traffic. Check it once a month and you will see which changes worked.
The short version
Accurate basics, the right primary category, every service listed, real photos, steady reviews and regular posts. That is what puts small businesses in the map results across DFW, often ahead of much bigger competitors.
